Erst im Dezember 2016 richtete sich Jeff Melvoin seinen Schreibtisch als Chefautor der Serie mit Kiefer Sutherland ein. Da die Suche nach Ersatz in vollem Gange ist und Melvoin der Serie als Executive Producer f\u00c3\u00bcr die zweite Staffel an Bord bleiben soll, kann man nun wohl getrost davon ausgehen, dass die ABC-Serie eine Fortsetzung bekommt. Derzeit wird im amerikanischen Fernsehen Folge 16 der ersten Staffel ausgestrahlt. Wer der vierte Showrunner in der Reihe wird, ist noch v\u00c3\u00b6llig unklar. Eine Pr\u00c3\u00a4ferenz oder eine Information, mit welchen Schreibern man sich in Verbindung gesetzt hat, gibt es bisher nicht. Ganz am Anfang hatte die Position Amy B. Harris, bekannt f\u00c3\u00bcr \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Wicked City\u00e2\u20ac\u009d inne, nach einer Neuausrichtung der Serie vererbte sie den Stuhl an Harmon Feldman. Die Quoten allerdings bleiben wohl weit unter den Erwartungen, so dass Feldman vermutlich aus diesem Grund von Jeff Melvoin ersetzt wurde. Warum dieser nun gehen muss, wurde nicht offiziell begr\u00c3\u00bcndet. In Designated Survivor ist Kiefer Sutherland (bekannt als Jack Bauer aus 24) der Pr\u00c3\u00a4sident der USA. Eigentlich ist er ein unbedeutendes Mitglied des Kabinetts, aber r\u00c3\u00bcckt durch einen Bombenanschlag, bei dem alle hochrangigen Politiker inklusive des Pr\u00c3\u00a4sidenten bei einer Ansprache zur Lage der Nation umkommen, auf die Stelle des Pr\u00c3\u00a4sidenten-Nachfolgers. Kimble Hookstraten, \u00c3\u0153berlebende des Attentats und gerissene, hochrangige Politikerin, unterst\u00c3\u00bctzt offiziell die Pr\u00c3\u00a4sidentschaft von Klinkman, aber man ahnt es schon, w\u00c3\u00a4re doch lieber selbst die Chefin der USA.
