Die Serie, welche erstmals am 21. September 2016 auf ABC ausgestrahlt wurde, ist in Deutschland auf Netflix abrufbar. Keith Eisner, der f\u00c3\u00bcr die zweite Staffel die Aufgaben des Showrunners auf sich nehmen wird, ist bereits der vierte Chefautor der Serie. Mit einer Einschaltquote von 10 Millionen Zuschauern, startete die amerikanische Serie sehr stark \u00e2\u20ac\u201c zum Staffelende ist diese Anzahl um mehr als die H\u00c3\u00a4lfte auf 4,6 Millionen gesunken. Im Zentrum der Handlung steht Thomas Kirkman, der als einer von dreien eine Explosion bei der allj\u00c3\u00a4hrlichen Rede zur Lage der Nation, welche vor dem Kongress im Kapitol stattfindet, \u00c3\u00bcberlebt. Alle Mitglieder des Obersten Gerichtshofes sowie der Pr\u00c3\u00a4sident kommen ums Leben. Der gelernte Architekt und parteilose Thomas Kirkman wird als einziges \u00c3\u00bcberlebendes Kabinettsmitglied ins Wei\u00c3\u0178e Haus gebracht und dort sofort zum Pr\u00c3\u00a4sident vereidigt.
