Everyone’s adored childhood non-human character, especially for kids born 1975-2005, Tron is a classic fan-favorite role. Their universe is a visual extravaganza with identity discs, laser lights, and hours of complex programming, that only takes a mistake and the game changes into a rebel, life-threatening, just like Grid’s dangerous program Ares. Let’s get into more details of this upcoming film here.
A self-aware AI soul
The story continues from the end of Tron: Legacy, as Grid is not a safe place. It is leaking and breaching into the real human world, threatening our existence. Ares is a supersized AI program that accidentally gets self-consciousness, and it no longer needs a master to control it. It’s a self-thinking program that is sent from Grid to the real world to fight off. What is Ares, aka Jared Leto’s, intentions of becoming a rogue program? Can this issue be salvable or beyond human control? Forms the rest of the story.
The Disney Sci-fi film focuses on the custom style of Tron’s glowing merchandise, just like they did in The Mandalorian and Dune.
The Tron Franchise Structure.
Tron has been an important part of introducing AI from the early years of the cinema, just like Transformers. They have released two films as part of continuing the story, now at a 15-year gap. Jared Leto is portraying the title character, Ares, in the new Tron film. Now, let’s see what the franchise film series needs to watch and avoid below.
- Tron (1982): This is the OG film and the beginning where Kevin Flynn creates Tron to fight off the Master Control Program and introduces the Light-Cycle. This shouldn’t be missed to understand the digital world and the Grid.
- Tron: Legacy(2010): Ares is a direct standalone sequel to Legacy. In this, Kevin’s son Sam Flynn enters the new Grid to find his missing father. Thus faces an AI that went rogue and Kevin’s existence in the Quorra. This is a must-watch.
- Tron: Uprising (2012-13): This is an animated series made to give more internal context on Grid, which is the main branch for Tron and Legacy. Although this series is optional, as Ares is not directly related.

Music and Graphics
The film’s music & sound design is composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, known for their prominent band, Nine Inch Nails. Likewise, Tron: Ares has special emphasis on graphics and visual tech with high-end computer-infused VFX. Now, the story doesn’t happen in the end doors of Grid, but in the real world. So it’s going to be very interesting and strong twists that open potential for more technological elements.
