Imagine you are a police officer, and the suspect in your case has died, so it’s a simple open-and-shut case, right? What happens if they come back alive in the graveyard and return to living normally, like nothing happened? Are they zombies? What is this strange revival phenomenon? All your answers are in Amazon Prime’s new hit TV show, Revival. Let’s see all the details here.

From Dead to Alive

Dana Cypress is a hardened police officer who lost her sister to rough circumstances and is also involved in a murder mystery. It’s all null and void until a lot of the dead walk out of graveyards, with all memories, behaviours, and bodies intact, like it’s nothing, and look fully alive. Are they zombies or half-dead?  No!

As her dead sister, Em, returns, Dana starts reinvestigating the case & her resurrection. Her unnatural signs tell us something bizarre is coming. Likewise, the officials declare quarantine, but the real madness starts when they discover an ancient curse tied to the decaying bodies, reviving them from decaying into making an army.

Vibes: Curse and Catastrophe

Embedding souls into haunting mysteries is all the rage these days. All want survival and zombies, that nerve-wrecking suspense with high-quality VFX. Revival comes under the same genre, balancing modesty with ancient cult tones. Viewers appreciated the strong cast choice and their family dynamics. Further, the resurrected have a compelling plot supporting their existence, and it resonates with real thrill.

However, it has numerous subplots that are very off. They pretend like crucial to the next episodes. But nothing comes out, and you may skip those awkward scenes. First episodes may seem a little slow with all the clutter, but real cliffhangers start from the later of episode 5 or 6. It takes patience, but it picks up momentum for the grand finale.

Crafting Characters

Dana Cypress, aka Melanie Scrofano, the protagonist of Revival, is a second-generation rule-abiding cop whose character slowly changes into a rebel against all morals and cults. She is a very intuitive yet emotional mother, valuing truths, facts, and duty. Her sister Em plays another crucial role, also a reviver haunted by her unstable supernatural nemesis. Revival’s main story comes from her life, the real cost of defying nature, and death. Her performance is very good; it adds layers to the plot’s suspense. Others like the sheriff and Professor Aaron Weimar give realism and society’s blind beliefs.

Music and Sound Design

The music composer Brian Reitzell has arranged fresh, gritty, and eerie themes. They fused piano elements with specific horror sounds and voices, creating a unique effect. You can observe emphasis on synths, & disturbing whispers give goosebumps. Well, it’s the limits, no jump scares like Conjuring or The Nun. It’s kept subtle yet good.
