The film’s attention to detail is evident in its rich depiction of a retro-futuristic landscape, blending nostalgic elements with futuristic technology. This fusion creates a unique aesthetic that is both familiar and intriguingly novel. The action sequences are well-executed, providing thrilling moments that keep the audience engaged.
There are a lot of really cool scenes, like the big battle, and some decent humor that plays into them. The book has a little darker tone and they had to take a lot of creative liberties to make it into a more cohesive narrative. It’s not to be taken too seriously. It’s a fun little escape into an alternate mid generation. These types of movies give strange ideas and concepts which you would never have seen before.
The Electric State
The Storyline – The story follows a girl named Michelle who is on a journey to save her brother. It’s the 1990s, after a massive war against robots who formerly served humans but demanded freedom. The war was won because of these devices that connect a human mind to a robot drone. The war was won by the humans, and all robots were confined in a 100,000 square mile space called the Electric State.
The Best Part – Millie Bobby Brown plays a girl whose family died in a car crash, not all her family. Her brother, a child genius, was secretly kidnapped and used to power an entire tech company. His consciousness somehow transfers into a cartoon-inspired robot, and he finds his sister to help him escape. Along the way, they meet Chris Pratt and his robot buddy, while Giancarlo Esposito plays a villainous robot hunter.
The Characters – Millie Bobby Brown being cast in the lead role, she did an amazing job. She brought her character to life and was great in both the action and emotional scenes.
IMDb Rating – 5.9/10
Companion
The Storyline – Iris (Sophie Thatcher) and her boyfriend Josh (Jack Quaid) drive to an isolated lakeside cabin owned by their friend Sergey (Rupert Friend), joined by two other couples, Kat, Eli & and Patrick, from their social circle. During a stroll alone by the lake, Sergey sexually assaults Iris. In self-defense, Iris stabs and kills him.Â
The Best Part – The humor was on point, the kills were creative, the acting was strong, and technically, everything worked well. If you’re into psychological thrillers, slow burns, and stories that mess with your head—in a good way—Companion is definitely worth watching. Just be ready for something darker and deeper than the trailer suggests.
The Characters – We see Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher play the role of Josh and Iris respectively. Jack’s girlfriend is the companion robot who is meant to give life and support to their human counterpart.
IMDb Rating – 6.9/10
Ash
The Storyline -The entire show was, how no one can get rid of a small girl. The human species and whatever superior species out there lost to a small girl with no personality or purpose to the universe. This movie captures perfectly two aspects of Lovecraftian horror: the be careful with what you wish for” message, since the desire to explore the planet at all costs ended up being their doom. The useless struggle of the protagonist fighting against the power of a lifeform that is beyond her comprehension (as shown during the post-credits sequence).Â
The Best Part – The film thrives on its ability to disorient and unnerve, leaving audiences with more questions than answers—but in the best way possible. If you’re a fan of cerebral horror, gripping performances, and immersive world-building, Ash is a must-watch.
The Characters – Eiza Gonzalez is ever easier on the eyes. And this is her “Solo” film. She’s in every scene and carries us through the story. And her acting chops do not help her here. Aaron Paul is left to explain exposition that no one could give a damn to follow, and he is forced to do this over the deep and pulsing sound of the world behind them.
IMDb rating – 4.6/10
The Assessment
The Storyline – The story is actually narrated as follows: in the not-so-distant future, humans live in separate colonies in small, controlled houses, and due to the lack of resources and fossil fuels, in order to reduce the population, enjoy life, fertility and childbearing are prohibited, and a very limited number of citizens in this dystopian society can achieve this by passing a test.
The Best Part – Extremely well made, with subtle direction, music, sets, and standout performances from all three leads, this really is a fine psychological sci-fi thriller that is a cut above a lot of the rest in its genre.
The movie really made you feel the connection with every character and scene. The aesthetic and CGI was crafted so artistically to fit perfectly too and not overwhelming.
The Characters – Elizabeth Olsen and Alicia Vikander give great performances that mix emotion with drama and a subtle amount of levity.
IMDb rating – 6.6/10
Mickey 17
The Storyline – The story takes place in the year 2054, around Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), a member of the Expendables crew – a dangerous job assigned to carry out the most life-threatening missions during the colonization of the ice planet Niflheim. If Mickey dies, he is resurrected in a new body with most of his memories intact. While this may seem like an advantage, his role later turns out to be more complex than it seems.
The Best Part – Mickey 17 is a triumph of modern science fiction—an intellectually provocative and emotionally resonant film that delivers both spectacle and soul.
