Reality shows differ from films, TV series, or any other live programs.  They capture real-life situations, competitions, and the struggle to win among participants. Though designed to entertain the audience, the unscripted dialogue, drama, tensions, conflicts, and relationships blur the line between fiction and reality, thereby providing an unprecedented and unpredictable outcome. One such reality show that has created buzz in town is Traitors. Inspired by the American reality show with the same name, this Indian show has secured a top spot on Amazon.

Set amidst the backdrop of a sunny and warm place in Suryagarh, Rajasthan, Traitors revolves around 20 participants. Hosted by the illustrious Karan Johar, the 20 participants from various entertainment fields must compete with each other to win a grand prize.

The Grand Entry

All the contestants dressed to the nines arrived at an aesthetically appealing palace in Rajasthan. Belonging to diverse fields—content creator, reality show star, actor, actress, astrologer, YouTuber, poker player, and more—they were left flabbergasted by a decision made by one of the players.

The Game Begins

Upon arrival, the contestants were asked to identify traitors and innocents among themselves. The participant deemed least trustworthy would be eliminated from the show immediately. However, such guesses and quick judgments arise from conversations, eye contact, players’ professions, behaviour, and shared perspectives. As the game intensified, Elnaaz Norouzi, an actor, was chosen as a traitor from the group. To everyone’s surprise, Elnaaz was offered another choice—to select the least trustworthy person from the group. Shockingly, Elnaaz chose Nikita Luther, a poker player, and Nikita left the game.

The Murder

The circle of sharks, where all the players assemble to keep a sharp gaze at other players. Assembled at the circle of sharks, the host identifies a set of traitors through a mysterious blindfold game and assigns them a task—the murder of innocents. The traitors must wear a mask of innocence while deceiving everyone around them. Each day, the traitors must secretly murder an innocent player to win money. But if innocents detect a traitor, they can vote them out. However, if innocents succeed in detecting all the traitors, they win the prize.

Unique Concept

This unique idea, location, set design, contestants, host, and costumes have set the bar high. Though inspired by an American show, this Indian adaptation integrates local cultural elements to engage its audience. Moreover, the American show was inspired by a Dutch show, named De Verraders.

With the first season of The Indian Traitor set to conclude on July 3, 2025, audiences are already eagerly awaiting its return. To meet fan demand, Amazon has officially greenlit a second season. This news has brought smiles to the viewers’ faces, and they are looking forward to the second season premiere.
