Owen Wilson or Roy O’Bannon? Why am I talking about Roy? Because we still can’t forget his character from “Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights”. Owen pairing with the legendary action star, the Kung Fu maestro, Jackie Chan, set a perfect example of two distinctive characters performing on the stake of their friendship. The first film, Shanghai Noon, was released in 2000, and the second, Shanghai Knights, was released in 2003. The success of these movies led to Shanghai Dawn, but the creators have not yet provided any new information. Hence, it is still under development. Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson’s pair redefined on-screen friendship chemistry.

Not only the Shanghai series, Owen, working with actor Vince Vaughn in Wedding Crashers and Starsky & Hutch, reshaped the friendship and provided a different perspective to the storyline. Since his debut in 1996 for the movie Bottle Rocket, as a co-writer and leading actor, Owen has established himself as a versatile artist. Adding to his evolving career, Owen Wilson’s latest Amazon series, Stick, which streamed on June 4, 2025, has received favourable reviews.

Second Phase

The Stick series, directed by Jason Keller and starring Owen Wilson in the lead role as Pryce Cahill, unfolds the journey of a golf player who has been suspended. As an act of redemption, Pryce must train a skilled but struggling young golfer, Santi, played by Peter Dager. Pyrce accepts this training as a challenge and a new beginning in his life.

Personal Struggles

The series highlights Pyrce’s relationship with his wife, Amber-Linn Sobeck, played by Judy Greer, as a failed marriage. This downhill relationship was caused by the death of their only son, Jett. On the other hand, Santi’s life goes south when his father abandons his mother, thereby causing a temper issue, emotional distrust, and arrogance.

Pyrce looks at Jett in Santi. Coaching Santi reminds him of his son. Though the series does not unveil the real reason for Jett’s death, it just hints at a terrible tragedy. Throughout the episodes, Pyrce navigates his personal life while coaching Santi. The main reason for hardcore coaching is the upcoming Championship. As the series gains momentum, both Santi and Pyrce must overcome the challenges and embrace the unity for this championship.

In short, after streaming six episodes of ten, this series, Stick, truly entertains audiences with its portrayal of characters and the sports drama genre. Set amidst the vibrant city of Vancouver, this series was supposed to be released as Rambler & the Birdie Machine. However, the showrunners decided to rename it to Stick. People looking for something new and fresh can watch this series on Apple+, because it is worth watching.
