Forget the weather; the real heat this August comes from the flicks hitting the big screen. We’re talking everything: cartoons causing chaos, old favourites getting a fresh spin, plus some seriously intense action and mind-bending thrillers. Seriously, if you fancy yourself a film fan, there’s got to be something here for you. So, whether you’re just killing an afternoon or settling in for some serious weekend viewing, keep these seven upcoming films on your radar.

7. Bad Guys 2 (1 August)

The Bad Guys 2 is a heist comedy film directed by Pierre Perifel and the sequel to The Bad Guys of 2022. Based on the children’s book series by Aaron Blabey, The Bad Guys 2, led by Mr. Wolf (voiced by Sam Rockwell), reconnects with a group of animal outlaws again, as they now struggle to get approval as “Good Guys.”

However, an all-women squad of criminals convinces the bad guys to go out of retirement and do one last thing, which will not be as smooth as they think. There are 2 Mac Maron, Awkwafina, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Zazie Beetz, Danielle Brooks, and Natasha Lyonne scoring the voice cast of bad people.

6. Weapons (8th August)

Zach Cregger’s new movie, Weapons, is a supernatural mystery that’ll give you the chills. It’s about this teacher, Justine (played by Julia Garner), whose students vanish one night. They just up and left their homes and ran off. Now, Justine’s helping the parents and town to find them and trying to figure out why they disappeared in the first place.

Everyone thinks Justine had something to do with it, since it was only her kids who vanished. Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Cary Christopher, Toby Huss, and Austin Abrams are also in it.

5. Nobody 2 (15th August)

Timo Tjahjanto is at the helm for Nobody 2, the follow-up to the action-packed 2021 film, Nobody. Bob Odenkirk returns as Hutch Mansell, the ex-assassin who’s trying to enjoy a family vacation.

But things take a sharp turn when a home invasion drags him back into his old life. This event triggers a series of happenings that expose some shadowy truths about Hutch and his wife. The movie also stars Connie Nielsen, RZA, Christopher Lloyd, Sharon Stone, Colin Hanks, and John Ortiz, among others.

4. Honey Don’t (22nd August)

Ethan Coen’s “Honey Don’t!” is a darkly funny neo-noir flick. Picture this: Bakersfield, California, and Honey O’Donahue (played by Margaret Qualley), a P.I., is on the case of a dead woman. Her work leads her straight to a religious cult headed by Reverend Drew Devlin (Chris Evans).

The movie has a funny supporting cast, including Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Day, Bill Eichner, Kristen Connolly, Don Swayze, Gabby Beans, and Talia Ryder. “Honey Don’t!” first screened at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, too.

3. Caught Stealing (29th August)

Darren Aronofsky is directing Caught Stealing, an action-packed crime thriller. The story centres on Henry Hank Thompson (played by Austin Butler), who used to play baseball but now works as a bartender. His life takes a turn when he agrees to watch his neighbour’s cat for a bit, unexpectedly landing him smack-dab in the middle of a criminal mess in 1990s New York.

The movie has a cast with Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Regina King, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, Bad Bunny, Carol Kane, and Yuri Kolokolnikov joining Austin Butler.

2. The Toxic Avenger (29th August)

Guess what? The Toxic Avenger is finally hitting the big screen! Macon Blair wrote and directed this crazy flick. Peter Dinklage plays Winston Gooze, a humble janitor who gets a serious dose of weirdness and transforms into a mutant.

So, Winston becomes Toxie, a vigilante cleaning up the streets with his trusty mop. He’s taking on gangsters, oddballs, and those shady CEOs, all while trying to be a good dad to his son. Jacob Tremblay, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Sarah Niles, and Julia Davis are also in it. This Toxic Avenger is the fifth movie in the series and a remake of the wild one from 1984.

1. The Roses (29th August)

“The Roses,” helmed by Jay Roach, is a funny take on Warren Adler’s book, The War of the Roses. Think of it as a new spin on the ’89 flick of the same name. The story’s about Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Ivy (Olivia Colman), a couple who look like they have it all.

Things get messy when Theo hits a career wall as Ivy’s star starts to rise. They begin to fight, and old feelings start to surface, turning their lives into a mix of laughs and, well, not-so-happy times. Keep an eye out for Andy Samberg, Kate McKinnon, Allison Janney, Ncuti Gatwa, and Zoë Chao too!
