David Ayer — the name sounds familiar, right? That’s because he’s the guy behind The Fast and the Furious, Suicide Squad, and a series of other films. Over the years, his films have gained worldwide recognition due to their high-octane stunts and gripping plots. David’s dedication to cinema reflects his work. I am sure people always remember the DC Comics films Suicide Squad and its sequel more than others. Although only one of the films was directed by Ayer, both received praise from critics and audiences alike for their adaptation from the book, strong ensemble cast, and powerful character-driven performances.

Last year, under his direction, the Beekeeper starring Jason Statham, Raver-Lampman, and Phylicia Rashad, made headlines because of the name and the amount of struggles experienced by actors, especially Jason, who had to undergo meticulous training with real bee experts for the character. And now, with the same extraordinary actor, Jason Statham, David has crafted a wonderful, action-thriller storyline called A Working Man.

An Ex-Marine Commander’s Life

Levon Cade, an ex-serviceman from the military, leads a contented life. Yet haunted by the death of his wife, he finds his strained relationship with his daughter, Merry, a constant reminder of everything he’s lost. However, in the second phase of life, Levon works as a construction lead in Chicago.

Human Trafficking

Levon arrives at a complicated situation when his boss Joe’s daughter, Jenny Garcia, who runs the company, disappears. Upon request, Levon agrees to help the Grazia family out of loyalty; however, their police approach remains futile. Now, he must resolve the issue and bring Jenny back home safely from Russian human traffickers. Though the journey remains oblivious to him, Levon must uncover the secret agenda behind the kidnapping.

Bumpy Ride

Throughout the journey, his perseverance and skills are tested as he’s forced to navigate corruption, loss, and the harsh realities of a world that reshaped him into another person.

Screen Players

A Working Man revolves around Jason Statham as Levon Cade, an ex-marine commando, and the Grazia family, consisting of Joe, played by Michael Peña; Jenny Garcia, played by Arianna Rivas; and Carla Garcia, played by Noemi Gonzalez. As the film progresses, the arrival of a new character unleashes curiosity and suspense, thereby keeping the audience glued to their seat. The high-octane stunts leave the audience enticed.

Initially, Sylvester Stallone’s passion for adapting Chuck Dixon’s novel, Levon’s Trade, drove the project forward. Later, the film’s development evolved, with David Ayer stepping in as director. Moreover, the film title was renamed from Levon’s Trade to A Working Man and was released on March 28, 2025. After its release, the film gained recognition due to its stunts and gripping plotline; however, the lack of humour was seen as a drawback. Now people can watch this film on Amazon.
