The last week of June was anything but quiet at the box office. From long-awaited comebacks to ambitious global debuts, moviegoers had plenty of reasons to hit the theatres. With genres ranging from mythological spectacle to survival drama, the screens were packed, and so were the ticket counters. Here’s a look at five films that made the loudest noise last week, each bringing something different to the table.
1. Sitaare Zameen Par
Aamir Khan returned to familiar emotional territory with Sitaare Zameen Par, a story of resilience, hope, and basketball. The film, which sees Khan as a coach guiding children with special needs, immediately reminded audiences of Taare Zameen Par, and that’s exactly where its strength lies.
Audiences responded with both curiosity and emotion. It crossed ₹94 crore within just 8 days and went past ₹122 crore by the tenth day. For Khan, this marks his sixth-highest-grossing film, and perhaps more importantly, a successful return after a quiet phase. In a landscape often dominated by spectacle, Sitaare Zameen Par proves there’s still room and hunger for heartfelt stories.
2. F1: The Movie
F1 made a loud, screeching entry into theatres, and audiences didn’t hesitate to buckle in. With Brad Pitt in the lead and real-life F1 circuits woven into the plot, the film appealed to both hardcore racing fans and casual moviegoers.
The movie had a massive global debut, raking in over $146 million during its opening weekend. In India, too, the film found traction, especially in metro cities where Formula 1’s popularity has been on the rise. For Apple Original Films, it’s their biggest theatrical success yet, and for Brad Pitt, another proof that his name still packs a punch worldwide.
3. Kannappa
Released on June 27, Kannappa blended mythology with action and grand visuals. The film stars Vishnu Manchu in the title role, but it’s the cameos, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Mohanlal that had fans buzzing. The film’s larger-than-life tone and devotional themes struck a chord, particularly in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Its four-day opening haul stood at over ₹25 crore, marking the biggest start for Vishnu Manchu in his career. While the dubbed versions had modest traction, the original Telugu version drove most of the numbers. The film is a clear win for fans of the mytho-masala genre that Indian cinema continues to love.

4. Maa
In Maa, Kajol steps into a horror-thriller directed by Vishal Furia. While horror can be hit or miss at the Indian box office, this one benefited from the curiosity surrounding Kajol’s return to the big screen.
Opening on June 27, the film collected around ₹17.4 crore over its first weekend. Though it saw a noticeable dip on Monday, the film had enough initial buzz to make it part of the week’s top performers. Visually dark, emotionally charged, and atmospheric in its approach, Maa shows that horror still has space if it’s anchored by strong performances.
5. How to Train Your Dragon (2025)
It wasn’t a new release, but How to Train Your Dragon continued its stellar run into its second and third weekends. The franchise has always enjoyed a loyal global fan base, and this latest chapter is no exception.
In the weekend around June 27, it clocked another $90 million globally and pushed past the $200 million mark in North America alone. Its emotional storytelling, rich animation, and appeal to both kids and adults kept the film afloat, despite stiff competition. Not bad for a film already in its third week of release.
