Oh Man, we’ve waited three whole decades to see if anyone could fill the big ol’ clown shoes of Leslie Nielsen and now Liam Neeson’s stepping up as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. in 2025.

Directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane, this legacy sequel promises deadpan chaos, crime-fighting mayhem, and pure slapstick heaven. But is it just a dusty rerun or a fresh comedy cocktail we didn’t know we were thirsty for?

Release Date & Overview

Paramount’s ready to let the giggles fly, locking in August 1, 2025 as the official release date. With old-school flair and new-age nonsense, it’s blending what we love with what we’ve missed.

Cast That’s Got Us Talking

  • Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Yes, that Liam! Taken man turned goofball cop)
  • Pamela Anderson as Beth (Bringing blonde bombshell energy, baby)
  • Paul Walter Hauser as Captain Hocken Jr. (You already know this man’s gonna deliver awkward, lovable chaos)
  • Plus! CCH Pounder, Liza Koshy, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Busta Rhymes, Cody Rhodes, and Eddy Yu join the party. Talk about mixing it up like a Friday night group chat!

What’s the Plot Tho?

Here’s the tea: Drebin Jr. tries to live up to his daddy’s messy legacy by cracking a high-stakes case with absolutely zero grace.

And y’all, the trailer shows him in a schoolgirl disguise stopping bank robbers with a lollipop… so you know we’re deep in Hot Mess Avenue. Just like the originals, expect lowbrow gags, high-energy pacing, and one-liners that make you spit your soda.

What’s Good?

  • Liam Neeson’s casting? Wild, but kind of genius. His serious face doing stupid things? Comedy gold.
  • Nostalgia factor is real, with callbacks to Leslie Nielsen’s dry delivery and O.J. Simpson’s infamous Nordberg role.
  • Visual comedy still reigns: falling objects, slow-motion slips, and ridiculous disguises? Check, check, and check.
  • And ooh chile, Drebin Jr. might not have his father’s polish, but the clumsy charm is giving what it’s supposed to give!

But What’s Not Slaying?

  • Original director David Zucker ain’t here for it. He called the reboot “inferior” and refused to participate. Ouch.
  • If it leans too hard into nostalgia without evolving the humor, Gen Z might just roll their eyes and walk out.
  • And let’s be real: Liam Neeson isn’t exactly a known clown… so the pressure’s on to prove he’s got the funny bone.

Why It’s Buzzing Everywhere

Let’s not lie… folks are CURIOUS. This trailer broke the internet the minute Neeson popped up in that skirt. Reddit’s meme pages are ablaze, TikTok’s already using scenes for reaction clips, and long-time fans are holding their breath (and popcorn).

The franchise still has fans who grew up with banana peels and bad puns, and now there’s a whole new crowd discovering that funny doesn’t have to be deep to hit hard.

Final Thoughts

The Naked Gun (2025) might be a comedy gamble, but it’s one we’re kinda ready to take. With a modern ensemble, bold gags, and a fearless new Drebin, this reboot is bringing the slapstick with swagger. If it lands, it’ll be like watching your grandpa dance at a wedding and realizing, oh snap, he still got moves.
