Today’s kids might be into CoComelon, babyfinn, Motu Patlu, or Masha &Bear. But there was a time when Shin-Chan used to rule the cartoon world. Back then, competing with other programs like Tom and Jerry, Phineas and Ferb, Adventure Time, and Looney Tunes shorts, Shin-Chan grabbed a permanent spot in young children’s minds. Thanks to the creators of the show! Now, if we look back at these programs, they give us a nostalgic feeling. Moreover, when a few of these programs bid their farewell due to unforeseen circumstances, they left an irreplaceable void, especially Shin-Chan, a Japanese manga series. When the Crayon Shin-Chan original creator, Yoshito Usui, passed away, the show was temporarily halted. Then his team stepped in to continue it under a slightly different name–New Crayon Shin-chan.

Tapestry of the Past

Initially, Shin-Chan appeared in the 90s as a weekly magazine in Japan. Its triumph led to the development of animated series in the late 90s, and the show still continues to air in various languages across the world. However, both the shows–Crayon Shin-Chan and New Crayon Shin-Chan have been hugely successful, maintaining strong viewership and leaving a lasting impact on animation fans worldwide.

Precís

Shin-Chan, a five-year-old boy, lives with his parents, baby sister, and dog in Kasukabe. Though Shin-Chan is a brat and a naughty kid, his funny, endearing personality surpasses the latter. Throughout the show, his daily lifestyle is portrayed, where Shin-Chan gets into trouble with his sarcastic comments, and his parents and teachers must step in to guide him in the right direction.

Double Meaning

In the show, a few episodes shed light on Shin-Chan using inappropriate language and subtly conveying a double-meaning message to older girls than him, to whom he is flirting. Although it may be on limited occasions, few parents forbid their children from watching this show.

Family Oriented

Shin-Chan is a family-oriented show, it explores the themes of family, relationships, bonding, friendship, and responsibility. Despite a few dark humour and horror elements, this show stands out compared to other animated series from then until now.

The Movie

Due to the success of the show, the director Masakazu Hashimoto crafted a new movie, Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Hot! The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers, yet to be released in India in October 2025. This upcoming movie embarks on the journey of Shin-Chan and his friends after arriving in the fictional town of India–Mushibai–to participate in a dance competition. Meanwhile, their fun-filled journey takes a different turn when they visit a general store to buy a backpack, which transforms into a secret weapon, thus affecting their friend, Bo-chan. Therefore, to resolve the issue, Shin-Chan and his friends must navigate the consequences while exploring India.

Though this is the 33rd movie, the earlier films have all contributed equally to the success of the series. Whether a movie or show, Shin-Chan has fans across different age groups. Till today, people strive to watch this show, and the announcement of a new movie has brought a smile to thier face.
