If you want to watch real horror, not mixed with comedy or love—I’m talking about cult classic haunters like Evil Dead and Conjuring, then you are at the right place. Yes! Here we have Netflix’s trending Thai trilogy of mysterious and eerie films, Death Whisperer (Tee Yod). By the end of this, you will understand its hype, especially for dark content lovers.

The Supernatural Black Spirit

The story is set in 1972, Thailand’s Kanchanaburi province. A rural family with three sons and three daughters lives in peace. That gets shattered when one of them encounters a ghostly spirit beneath a tree. Yam gets possessed, and our protagonist Yak, concerned for sister, visits a local priest seeking advice to cut down a mysterious bamboo Tree. To our surprise, they find some live body parts, including a beating heart.

Their attempt to burn them and break the curse throws UNO reverse, taking her life. Thus, continues to torment the family. After three years, Yak is determined to find the spirit. They go into the forests and meet a Shaman. What happens in their journey? Who is the malevolent entity? Will Yak survive the challenge or get possessed? Is the rest.

Vibe: Hint, Hunt, and Haunt

The films did well in portraying a plagued spirit that torments the family relentlessly. It is certainly not a fresh concept, but this becomes doubly scary & triple interesting when you know the backbone story, i.e., Tee Yod or vengeful spirits that are concealed in trees to block the curse from summoning or possessing anyone. Well, there are diverse things in this field to understand before you watch this film. So do some homework, and then you can clearly understand the films. Its behaviour, nature, tradition, and all.

Crafting Characters

The makers have shown an authentic version based on a true Thai folklore. They have induced cultural elements and stereotypes that the ancients used to follow, shamanism, spells, and so all. Special appreciation to the main lead, Nadech Kugimiya’s performance. Both parts surround his side of explorations against the evil, which is the perfect blend of the supernatural to adventure. However, neither “Black Spirit” nor other characters have proper plot development. Also, CGI might seem artificial in some scenes, but fine.

Myth vs Movie

The film delves into shamans, rituals, and black magic scenes performed to excise the spirit, like the holy water or chanting we see in films, but more darkly. It’s needed to do research on the Tee Yod of Thai ghost stories before you watch both films. Also, good news for us, the third part is releasing on October 8 of this year. So, enough time to understand the concept and keep expectations high, because this time they are bringing more gritty and gruesome ordeals that escalate the genre of horror to the next level.
