Whoa-whoa! The upcoming movie, Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death, has generated much excitement with the most-awaited return of the elusive Toji Fushiguro. Scheduled for a Japanese premiere on May 30th, 2025, this compilation film delves into intense arcs from Season 2, allowing fans to experience their beloved characters’ pasts immensely.

The Good: The Toji Takeover

Visuals & Animation:

Studio MAPPA is back to light up the screen with an animation style that is worthy of the highest standards, enacting the mid-battle tensions and emotional situations with grace. Just released, Toji’s visual has his famous scar, and his intense-looking eyes are driving discussion among the fans.

Character Complexity:

Toji Fushiguro, the so-called Sorcerer Killer, is given more layers to explore by the character’s complexity. The character’s voice actor, Takehito Koyasu, goes on to call him a man like a meteor, suggesting an extremely transient presence, although within the storyline, very impactful.

Soundtrack:

An acoustic version of “Where Our Blue Is” by Tatsuya Kitani accompanies the film, setting a sombre tone that fits the storyline. You get a whole whirlpool of nostalgia once you turn it on.

The Bad: The Compilation Dilemma

Recycled Materials:

As a compilation film, it really just packages up the first five episodes of season two. While the spectacularly enhanced visuals and sound are a treat, some fans might actually want to see some new stuff.

Limited New Stuff:

While the fans expected a lot more from their favourite anime film, except for the Juju Stroll mini-anime, Toji’s new look and the acoustic theme, not much fresh material is on display, leaving some wanting.

Update: Toji’s New Look

Days prior to the film’s release, a new visual of Toji Fushiguro was unveiled, showing Toji with a mesmerising glare and his welcome scar. The man behind the character’s voice, Takehito Koyasu, shared that he thinks of Toji as a man, bright yet fleeting, like a meteorite. Such a new representation gives Toji depth; thus, another reason to expect Toji’s return!

Worth the hype?

C’mon, girl, diehard Jujutsu Kaisen fan: this is a must-see! New graphics, character depth, emotional soundtrack…it’s all here. If you’re looking for something new, I think this compilation is just like what you’ve already watched. In Short, Hidden Inventory / Premature Death is a finely tailored kimono…familiar in design but exquisite in detail; it allows the fans to relive pivotal moments with enhanced clarity and emotion. Get your popcorn and cursed tools ready; this movie is definitely an experience to catch!
