John Wick, a retired assassin, is forced back into the criminal world to avenge the death of his puppy–a final gift from his late wife, Helen. After his entry, the rest is history created by him. John Wick’s character was so attached to the audience that the directors developed a few more stories around him, ultimately setting up a franchise of John Wick. Keanu Reeves’s representation as John Wick revitalised his career and turned the franchise into a global phenomenon.

Throughout the series, the plotlines differ. In the second instalment, John Wick is sent to eliminate the target whilst navigating betrayal from his group. In the third instalment, John Wick–Parabellum, Wick is outlawed for his actions and races against the clock to elude ruthless bounty hunters and assassins. In Chapter 4, John battles against enemies on international grounds. Now, who is this Eve Macarro, and what connection does she have to John Wick’s life? We can unlayer the story one by one.

Eve Macarro

Ana de Armas, a Knock-Knock and War Dogs girl, donned the hat of Ballerina in an action-thriller film, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. Her character, Eve Macarro or Rooney, is drawn from John Wick’s bold assassin character, showcasing a similar blend of lethal skill and unwavering determination. Eve is trained in the same school, Ruska Roma, where John Wick was trained in assassination under the guidance of a director in New York City.

Ballerina

After Eve’s father’s death, she is rescued by the mentor, who had mentored John Wick. However, bound to the unfortunate situation, Eve must step in as an assassin to avenge her father’s death. This nerve-wrecking transition from ballerina to assassin helps in revealing the real warrior hidden beneath her.

Lady John Wick

Though she drew inspiration from John Wick, her actions speak remastered versions of him. Through her ability, perseverance, and skills, she can attack enemies with swords, deploy grenades, shoot accurately under pressure, and leverage any item–kitchen dishes, an ice skate, to defend herself and compete against the enemy. Ultimately, Eve is the lady John Wick of Ballerina by fighting like a girl.

This film is set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. Though it is considered a spin-off of the John Wick franchise, it offers a unique blend of action, adventure, and women’s courage to defeat the dangerous underworld, despite the odds. The entire John Wick series follows neo-noir action sequences, immersing the viewer in a gritty underworld filled with assassins, shadowy alliances, and relentless combat. This spin-off series has visually captivated the audience through its high-octane action stunts and drama.

Ana de Armas, who has recently been involved in dating rumours with Hollywood’s iconic actor Tom Cruise, has delivered an exceptional performance in this film. In short, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina must be watched, and it deserves all the attention due to the starcast, plotline, background score, and action. As a spoiler alert, Keanu Reeves’ appearance on the screen elevates the depth of the story.
