To step into the magical land of Disney as a princess is everyone’s dream. There are twelve Disney princesses– Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, Moana, and Raya, each with special qualities hidden within them. They are kind-hearted, optimistic, determined, adventurous, brave, and free-spirited. However, the beauty of these princesses is incomparable, indescribable, and unmatchable.
To begin with, the old film “ Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was produced by Walt Disney and released in 1937. It was a musical fantasy—an animated feature film—directed by multiple sequence directors, Perce Pearce, Larry Morey, and Wilfred Jackson. Originally, it was based on the 1812 German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm.
Upon its release, the film gained accolades for its character’s voice-over, detailed background, mesmerizing composition of music, and the courage of Walt Disney to produce this film. While the film reigns as the most iconic animated film, its additional remake version elevates the success and travels through echoes.
Remake
In 2025, a live-action reimagining film was released. Directed by Marc Webb, and in the lead roles, Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
Main Plot
Snow White is a beautiful princess, but her life takes a different path when her stepmother thrones in as queen to rule the kingdom. Snow White has to overcome many obstacles to escape from this servitude; she aspires to lead a happy life. After escaping, her friendship with the seven dwarfs led to a serene environment and provided a sense of security. The story intensifies when the Evil Queen poisons Snow White, and the prince steps in to rescue her, adding depth to the drama. Ultimately, Snow White’s longing for happiness and marriage to the prince draws a curtain to the story.
Differences and Similarities Between old and new
In the remade film, snow white is portrayed as a strong, independent woman; she is not a damsel in distress, nor is she seeking men to rescue her. Overall plot remains untouched; only a few necessary changes are made. Upon escaping the kingdom, Snow White finds a way to overthrow the evil queen and reclaim her kingdom with the help of a rogue bandit. This one element makes the film different from the original movie.
Moreover, Snow White’s backstory in the old movie was brief, and her forced servitude was less focused. On the contrary, the new film focuses on her childhood, creating a deep connection with the characters. Additionally, in the new film, Dwarfs’ characters are portrayed as having magical powers. Whereas, in the original fairy tale film, these dwarfs were mere supporting roles.
Visual Treat
The new Snow White film may create a visual treat for the audience, and the star cast sounds promising, but the original old movie has left a remarkable impression on Disney lovers and viewers. Finally, one may conclude that the new film paid homage to the old movie, but old is gold.
