If you love the Korean favorite medical drama “Hospital Playlist” on Netflix, then gear up, the makers are coming this year with a spin-off series. Yes! The recently released “Resident Playbook” of the Yulje Medical Center is a standalone sequel that delves into the difficulties, pressures, and how interns will navigate them while becoming doctors. Let’s get into a detailed review and see if this Netflix series is a hit or a miss!
First-year Gynecology Residents
This series is of the same Yulje Medical Center, but takes place in the Jongno branch. It follows the professional-personal lives of four young OB-GYN residents: Oh Yi Young, Pyo Nam Kyung, Kim Sa bi, & Um Jae-il. They enter the department at its difficult phase, i.e., Low birth rates. While all work under Senior resident Goo Do Won, aka Jung Joon Won, while confronting the hospital emergencies, surgeries, and ethical dilemmas. They explore inner conflicts, bad decisions, responsibility, and a spark of love between the scrbs, sanitizers, and scan sheets. All episodes have been aired, so do check on Netflix.
Crafting Characters
We can say the protagonist “Go Youn Jung” is a Netflix baby. Her popularity is marked by some of Netflix’s best fictional series, “Alchemy of Souls” and “Death’s Game.” Now, she’s back again with a different genre & excellent acting in Resident Playbook. Another quite striking character is Kang You Seok, a former K-pop idol transforming into a real doctor. His charming personality, added to the melodious voice in Karaoke scenes, is very good. Most regular characters, like senior residents, professors, & interns, did decent acting.
Emotions and Cameos
It’s evident that the series wanted to create a connection to its famous prequel; they relied on character cameos. They reintroduced all the main characters, Lee Ik Jun, Ahn Jeong Won, Chase Song Hwa, Kim Dae Myeong, and Kim Jun Wan. Similarly, many side characters like Lee Ik Sun, Jang Gyeo Ul, Jang Hong Do, Ahn Chi Hong, & Heo Seo Bin.
It’s great to see that our favourite people are thriving with short clips from their lives. I believe the makers overdid the cameo part. It has overshadowed the main characters, and many fans are rushing just to see those similar faces on screen again but have ignored the little boring narrative of the current drama. It’s like a plus-minus point.

Soundtrack and Society
The Resident Playbook is released amidst heavy medical reforms and trainee doctor protests because this drama offers one such perspective on strenuous hours of work and how it impacts their personal lives, which is a great move. Likewise, the OST is given by the TXT k-pop band “When the Day Comes,” is another super tune to listen.
Final Verdict
If you love medical dramas and are a fan of “Hospital Playlist” then this series is for you. From exploring hospital intricacies to balancing personal life insecurities, the drama offers a good amount of relatable character development. We have loads of cameos so its great for fans. Sometimes, the main plot gets sidelined, so watch out for it and enjoy!!!
