You is a psychological thriller spanning five seasons, centered around Joe—a seemingly charming, everyday guy hiding a mountain of dark secrets. Each season places Joe in a new environment, where he meets a fresh love interest he either obsessively “unalives” or desperately tries to prove himself to, insisting he’s just a good guy who sometimes does bad things.
The Thrilling Storyline
A mysterious, dark, romanticized series that is engrossingly entertaining with sleuths of emotional coasters. The writing is intelligible and vividly fascinating. A psychological thriller with romantic overtones that are intertwined beautifully and effortlessly.
The Final Blow (S05)
Joe Goldberg was reshaped into something unrecognizable, stripped of the complexity that made him fascinating. The result was a caricature, a pale echo of the character we once understood and feared. It wasn’t merely disappointing; it felt like a betrayal of the series’ legacy and of the loyal fans who had championed it.
Why It Is Captive
From watching actor Penn perform outstandingly as such a complicated character as Joe Goldberg! He’s become a really mature actor, performing 2 sides of a devilish killer and a loving person that he forces us to get attached to, Joe in pursuit of a love never given to him by his mother! It takes us into the mind of a serial killer who walks in society as normal, to a point he reaches the higher rich society in which decadence and lies, and killing are part of their world.
The Characters
Penn Badgley carried this entire show on his shoulders. His performance was the only reason I stuck around till the end. Right by Joe’s side is Charlotte Ritchie as Kate Galvin, his new wife. Marienne survived by outwitting Joe with the help of Nadia Farran, and Tati Gabrielle also returned. Baby Reindeer star Nava Mau is joining the show with a guest star role as Detective Marquez.
Is This Your Cup Of Tea
If you like dark character studies, unreliable narrators, and shows that make you feel weird about cheering for the “bad guy”.The writers do a fantastic job walking the tightrope for the show’s protagonist AND antagonist, Joe Goldberg. Through his inner monologue that reminisces of American Psycho’s Patrick Bateman, we get sucked into Joe’s tunnel vision that has us almost rooting for him; but the show never lets us forget: Joe is a bad man.
