In India, kesari is a saffron colour that symbolises the spirit of bravery, strength, and power of a warrior on a battleground, whose courage and determination remain unmatched. Speaking of Kesari, Akshay Kumar’s latest film, Kesari Chapter 2, sheds light on the untold story of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. It is a Hindi-language historical court drama film directed by Karan Singh Tyagi. It is based on the book “The Case That Shook The Empire” by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, primarily focusing on C. Sankaran Nair and the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Spectacle Narration

Throughout the film, narration adds to the depth of the story. It is followed by highlighting the massacre on 13 April 1919. Parallelly, portraying the heart-wrenching incidents that are taking place in Amritsar. The British crown appoints C. Sankaran Nair, played by Akshay Kumar, a distinguished Indian barrister and member of the Viceroy’s Council, to submit a report on the massacre.

Initially unaware of the real truths behind this, C. Shanakaran Nair agrees and begins his investigation. However, his mission changes when a survivor of the incident, a young boy, grabs his attention with a slogan demanding justice. Shankaran Nair’s mission to pull down the crown intensifies in the later stage, where he discovers the death of a young boy. To uncover the real truth, he and a law student, Dilreet Gill, played by Ananya Panday, sue the Crown and Dyer for genocide.

The Crown

The film wonderfully unveils the real nature of the crown and military troops led by Reginald Edward Harry Dyer. The courtroom drama with powerful dialogue draws the audience’s attention. It highlights Shanakaran Nair’s ability to bring down the crown with his intellect and brilliance. Every examination and cross-examination in the court makes the audience closer to the real incident, provoking a sense of patriotism.

Tricks and Twists

Desperate to bring down Shankaran Nair professionally and personally, the viceroy decides to hire a capable opponent, Neville McKinley, played by R. Madhavan. Moreover, the addition of new characters creates a significant impact on the turning moment in the case.

Intensifies The Emotional Depth 

Every actor has exceptionally portrayed their characters. Here, the sublime BGM intensifies the emotions in every scene. It helps people connect emotionally to their roots. The screenplay deserves special appreciation. 

Glory of Victory

Despite its triumphs, the film’s beats in certain songs might divert the audience from the original history that is taking place. Nevertheless, the film stands out for its compelling storyline and huge star cast. As a patriotic film, Kesari 2 unfolds the struggle behind the massacre and evokes a sense of pride in every citizen. It is a must-watch film for everyone.
