The Marvel Cinematic Universe has never held back, but not many future projects have created as many speculations as Marvel Zombies did. The second teased in What If…? this plot provides a perverse take on the survival-horror genre in the context of superheroes. As the animated series has officially made it onto the Marvel release calendar, the fans are now wondering what to expect. Below is a list of what to anticipate in Marvel Zombies in 2025.

Comic Book Roots

Marvel heroes became undead in the comics long before the MCU. In 2005, Robert Kirkman, who would later create The Walking Dead, created a short series of comics called Marvel Zombies. It depicted Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Captain America as super scary zombies who devoured flesh. It became a cult hit. Later, Disney+ used the idea in What If…?, which got everyone excited again and made a full series possible.

Disney+ is bringing a cool idea to life!

Marvel Studios Animation is making a four-part cartoon series based on one of everyone’s favourite stories. Thing is, this one’s rated TV-MA – something totally new for Marvel cartoons. So, expect lots of blood, scares, and all the intense stuff that makes zombie tales so good. Bryan Andrews is calling the shots as director and showrunner, with Zeb Wells doing the writing. They almost made it a movie, but then thought a series would work better so they could really get into what happens when superheroes turn into zombies.

Publish and release of Marvel Zombies

Marvel Zombies will also arrive on Disney+ and roll out its four-part season weekly on September 24, 2025. The show was initially set to be released in October, though it was moved up earlier, which suggests that the creators of Marvel were highly confident in the project. This show is aimed at adult viewers, as opposed to family-friendly names, which are usually employed in the studio. It balances extreme action, dreadful horror, and graphic violence with humour and heartfelt emotion. Given its more foreboding atmosphere as a survival-horror show, Marvel Zombies will hope to present a refreshing and unrelaxing twist to the ever-expanding universe of the MCU.

Let’s talk voices and characters

The MCU has a star-studded lineup on the show. We are speaking of Awkwafina, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Paul Rudd, Hailee Steinfeld, Tessa Thompson, and Iman Vellani. Blade appears in it too, called Blade Knight and performed by Todd Williams. Blade does not have the voice of Mahershala Ali, but the live-action films make the character look exactly like him, which is a nice sneak preview.

Looks like we’ll see zombified or survivor versions of heroes. Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, Okoye, Ghost, and Abomination, plus Ikaris from Eternals, will show up. A mix of zombie baddies and survivors trying to live? Get ready for some wild fights!

Why Fans Should Get Excited

Marvel Zombies mixes horror, action, and superhero stuff, so it might just change what we think Marvel shows can do. Seems like Marvel’s up for trying darker stories but still keeping the comic book feel. If it hits right, we could see some way-out, cool stories in the MCU.

Wrapping Up

The fact that Marvel Zombies is rated mature, there are great voice actors involved, and that it is more of a horror film makes it sound like it is going to be a darn good time as well as a scare. It combines the madness of the comics with the massive Marvel universe, which perhaps makes it one of the most fun things that will be released in 2025. If you’re looking for something with a darker feel, this show could quickly become a favourite in Marvel’s growing collection.
