They say the greatest love stories start unexpectedly and end in melancholy. Well, that’s the real case in this new popular Netflix slice-of-life and romance drama, Mr.Plankton. With a stellar cast and interesting plotline, this series is a rollercoaster ride of feelings and longing for the audience. Let’s discuss whether all the surrounding hype is worth it!
Love, Journey, and Death
Hae Jo and Jae Mi were once great lovers, separated due to mismatched perspectives on life. Fate encounters them again in their worst nightmares. Here, Hae Jo gets diagnosed with terminal cancer, & Jae Mi is left with the harsh truth of her infertility & menopause. She decides to fabricate a pregnancy and marry her fiancé. But as the situation turns out, she runs away from the wedding with Hae Jo.
Now, they together embark on a journey to find the whereabouts of Hae Jo’s father. The journey is full of twists, bumps, rekindling of old love, and many more turns. Curios! Open Netflix and stream the series right away.
Visuals and Vibes
The beautiful portrayal of Hae Jo’s story is the highlight experience. The actor has easily pulled such complex emotions, even in romantic moments, & managed to avoid cliches as in created balanced humor for viewers. Also, the drama throws stones at themes like societal pressure on having kids, family, or adulting in a relatable lens. However, scenes of their budding relationship are somewhat rushed to the climax, leaving no depth. Also, in some moments, the show is somewhat corny & dragged for filling screen time.
Crafting Characters
Woo Do Hwan and Lee You Mi as protagonists have a killer chemistry. They worked the lacking and overly sentimental story with their charm and natural acting. Of course, the side actors are legendary Korean stars like Oh Jung Se from “It’s Okay Not to be Okay”, Kim Hae Sook from “Room No. 9”, and Goblin’s Lee El. So, it’s a feast for international fans to see all of them on one screen. Overall, I believe it’s casting magic and decent visuals that have protected the drama from skyfall.

Spark in romance or Sentiment
The context of the drama is quite open & predictable that the hero is going to die soon, right in the first episode. However, the rekindling of love & father-son sentiment keeps the hook intact. Many fans argue that eight episodes are too short. But I think it’s the right choice to cut chase, because continuing emotional adventure dramas without boredom is hard to catch and fix. So they gave the necessary goodbyes on point.
Final Verdict
If you are into attractive heroes and sad endings, then Mr.Plankton is bang for the buck. If you get involved, then the ending will leave you crybaby and heartbroken for days, so do keep tissues on your side while binging. It might get boring here and there, but the story picks up pace, and the acting gets better. So, yeah, it’s a decent one-time watch
