In einem Blog-Beitrag hat Disney bekannt gegeben, dass das Desktop- und Mobile-Spiel Club Penguin nach 11 Jahren am 29. März 2017 abgeschaltet wird. Doch Fans der kleinen Pinguine müssen nicht traurig sein, denn ebenfalls im März soll das neue Franchise Club Penguin Island für mobile Endgeräte veröffentlicht werden. Laut Disney wurde eine komplett neue Mobile-Plattform für Club Penguin Island gebaut, welche eine Abschaltung des alten Spiels, welches über ein Jahrzehnt überdauerte, unumgänglich gemacht hat. Die Macher versprechen zudem, dass der neue Mobile-Titel einzigartige Pinguin-Erlebnisse und neue Features mit sich bringt. Außerdem soll Club Penguin Island mehr Spaß machen als zuvor. Um den Abschied nach 11 Jahren gebührend zu feiern ist seit dem 1. Februar eine gigantische Party in Club Penguin ausgebrochen. Loggt euch im Spiel ein und feiert gebührend mit euren Freunden. Mitglieder, die in Club Penguin für ihren Account eine monatliche Gebühr gezahlt haben, bekommen die letzten beiden Monate übrigens von Disney geschenkt. Demnach können alle Nutzer die gezahlt haben bis zum 29. März auch weiterhin alle Vorteile eines Premiumaccounts nutzen. In ausgesuchten Sprachzonen können sich Nutzer zudem für den neuen Mobile-Titel Club Penguin Island bis zum 16. Februar vorab registrieren.
