It is a triumph, taking you from one journey in culture to the next. It references everything from Video Games, the works of Arthur C. Clarke, Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, quantum physics, and warring civilizations. But the story is engrossing, its Epic scale only used at key moments. Such as scenes in the Panama Canal, Ranks of Chinese armies that spread across Landscapes. The science of an Eclipse. It uses Alien Beach shores. The whole thing is a humming disc of ideas so big and original that I can’t wait to see what comes next.
The Storyline
The story starts with interesting and mysterious things happening around the scientists. Establishing the five scientists’ characters, their current professional state, their relationship state, and their loss of a fellow friend. The book gave them a nearly limitless number of hard sci-fi concepts to integrate into the show. Instead, let’s have the characters all smoke cigarettes and own very large corporations and world-leading research institutions at, again, the ripe old age.
The character Ye Wenjie is the key character in the series and is written well in the younger portion, as she brings the threat to the whole world, but feels underwhelming in the present portion of the story, as nothing interesting happens with her. Her daughter’s death and the reason are poorly presented when Ye Wenjie and Jin talk about it, and don’t have an emotional impact when Ye Wenjie reveals she is part of it.
The Best Part
It looks as if this new genre of series that the Game of Thrones producers have created is doing it again. If this level of excellence, while adapting the best fiction on the page to the screen, continues, it’s clearly a formula for success.
As the protagonists were women who had their own relationships with each other, likewise men who had meaningful relationships between themselves and with women, without it needing to be romantic. It made the romantic moments feel much more meaningful.
The Characters
James’s assertion that the show sacrifices good storytelling for an agenda. Cheng Xin and Yun Tianming undergo a metamorphosis between Benioff and Weiss, assimilating into preexisting character frameworks. Auggie is constantly putting effort into making her face angry.

Is It Worth Watching?

The adaptation maintains the sense of humor from the books but makes it more accessible to a general audience. Anyhow, if you are a die-hard fan of sci-fi shows, you will really enjoy this show even though depth, as in book, is lacking.
