Orpheus and Eurydice are a beautiful couple known for their tragic love story in Greek mythology. On the wedding day, after marriage, their life crumbles when Eurydice succumbs to death by snakebite. And now, devastated Orpheus embarks on a mission to retrieve her from the Underworld. Orpheus, a musician and poet, must follow strict conditions, like not looking at his wife until the upper world; failing may cause Eurydice to bounce back to death.
However, Orpheus’s music captivates everyone in the Underworld, thereby persuading the gods Hades and Persephone to allow Eurydice to return with him, reflecting his power of music. Unfortunately, Orpheus fails to obey the condition, causing Eurydice to travel back to the realm of the dead. Underlying this theme, the director Geremy Jasper crafted the O’Dessa film, which narrates a beautiful musical love story of two individuals trapped in a dangerous world. Starring Sadie Sink, Kelvin Harrison Jr, Murray Bartlett, and Regina Hall in the lead roles, this film sheds light on power, love, destiny, music, and rebellion.
The Love
O’Dessa, played by Sadie Sink, sets out on a mission to recover her stolen guitar in Satylite City. Meanwhile, at a private island, the media ruler, Plutonovich, has certain conditions: people who win the contest are rewarded with a prize and titled “The One”. On the contrary, those who oppose are brutally killed. While retrieving her guitar, O’Dessa encounters Euri Dervish–a performer, with whom she develops a love. But to sustain their love, they must overcome the challenges put before them by the head of the city, Neon Dion–Plutonovich’s influencer and intimidating character.
Life and Death
As the story gains momentum, Euri persuades O’Dessa to leave this dangerous world by handing her money. But unbeknownst to him that she is in the city, Euri takes matters into his own hands by insulting Dion. However, this act triggers Dion and punishes him to dance for the rest of his life. This incident acts as a major drawback in Euri and O’Dessa’s marriage. Nevertheless, O’Dessa remains hopeful and sings songs for Dion as entertainment. In doing so, she becomes “The One,” destined to save the Euri from dictatorship and free the world.
