It’s everything a summer movie should be: insanely entertaining, high on action and low on believability, scientifically impossible science that makes sense as long as you don’t think too much about it, a situation that pulls a “haunted by the past”. Twenty-eight years after the 1996 film Twister, the audience finally has the sequel called Twister. Probably one of the best ways to title a sequel film is by adding an “s” at the end to make it plural. Case in point, Aliens.
The Storyline
The story follows a young ex-storm-chaser, Kate (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones), who is called back into the wild, windy pursuit of documenting tornadoes. She is joined on this voyage by a band of fancy, PhD, “corporate-sponsored” meteorologists led by an old flame from the past (played by Anthony Ramos). Coming onto the scene like a wild wind is Tyler Owens (played by Glen Powell).
He leads the opposite storm-chasing team (this one not corporate-sponsored) seemingly with the sole purpose of maintaining a high view count on his YouTube channel. Occasionally, both teams will set aside their differences to help victims in the aftermath of a tornado.
The Storm Chasing Characters
The team members on the Tyler Owens team are hard to tell apart due to their identical personalities. Glen Powell’s character in this film might be considered extremely reckless. Most of the characters in this film seem bland and lacking depth.
The Best Part
The head group members of the other storm chaser group, Tyler Owens and Kate, were like two siblings going at each other the whole movie. I also like how the director decided to get rid of the romantic moment between Tyler and Kate, And how both storm chasing groups decided to stop bumping heads with each other and intended to help the small towns around Oklahoma get to safety.
The visual style colors enhanced the mood of the film. For example, they use dark and stormy colors to create the scene and use dramatic camera work to convey the chaos of each scene.
