Sony Pictures Animation is doing it again, jumping back into the Spider-Verse with a fresh animated movie. This time, it’s all about Spider-Punk, the guitar-shredding rebel who stole the show in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. You know, the one with the punk rock look and the ‘stick it to the man’ vibe? He’s getting his own movie. This is just Sony keeping the Spider-Verse party going strong.
Daniel Kaluuya is back as Spider-Punk!
The Oscar winner, who voiced Hobie Brown in Across the Spider-Verse, is jumping back into the role. But here’s the cool part: he’s not just doing the voice this time. Daniel Kaluuya will be helping write and shape the movie, teaming up with Ajon Singh, a screenwriter who’s been making waves with his work on Primetime. Apparently, Kaluuya’s take on Spider-Punk was so awesome in the last movie that the character, who was supposed to be a small part, became super important to the story.
Who’s the Spider-Punk Guy?
So, there’s this dude called Spider-Punk, right? His real name is Hobie Brown, and he’s from Earth-138 in the Marvel world. Forget your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man—this guy rocks a mohawk, a leather jacket, and an electric guitar while fighting against you-know-who. Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel brought him to life in the comics back in 2015, and people went wild for him. I guess his look, his rebel attitude, and that killer appearance in the Spider-Verse movie made him famous.

More Spider-Man is on the way!
Spider-Punk’s movie is just one piece of Sony’s big idea to grow the animated Spider-Verse. It all kicked off with the hit movie Into the Spider-Verse and its follow-up Across the Spider-Verse. Next up, there’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and Spider-Punk should be back for that. Plus, they’re planning a Spider-Women spin-off with Gwen Stacy, Jessica Drew, and Cindy Moon. Sony wants to shine a light on all kinds of Spider-heroes from other worlds.

Just Getting Started
Everyone’s hyped up, but the Spider-Punk movie is just getting off the ground. There’s no date set for when it’ll hit theatres and no story details yet. But, with Kaluuya having a big hand in how the story and character are coming together, hopes are pretty high. The movie should show us more of Hobie Brown’s wild, punk life and give people a different idea of what a hero can be.
Wrapping Up
Spider-Punk went from a comic sidekick to a multiverse rebel that fans love, and it happened fast. With Daniel Kaluuya leading the way, Sony’s putting a lot of faith in what the character has to offer. This movie could be another standout addition to Sony’s Spider-Verse.
