After the successful launch of “The Last of Us” TV show, adapted from a video game. We have another Netflix animated series taken from the Splinter Cell video game franchise. Yes! Honouring the source material of Ubisoft production, Derek Kolstad, known for John Wick, is preparing a big surprise for us. Let’s delve into all the details of this show.

Rebirth and Fight

The world after Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is not the same. Sam Fisher lost his best ally, Douglas Shetland, is now rebooting to wage a bigger war against the corrupted society.  New journey brings new threats, enemies, and chaos that he should confront from both external situations and his past traumas. This is 16 16-episode setup with two parts, with 8 episodes for each part and a runtime between 30-40 minutes.

How to see the Prequels?

Fortunately, this is the first series and is coming as a standalone story. So if you’re new to the video game or trailer, then fear not, the makers have surely kept accessible points for us to understand the overarching narrative and enter the universe. However, there are 6-7 video games designed on this concept that are very, very entertaining. If you are interested, you can play them on the sandbox and then watch, an exciting experience.

Character and Screenplay

This series revolves around our militant Sam Fisher, voiced by Liev Schreiber. He is a top U.S. government covet operative from the Fourth Echelon unit. After years of living in the remote, he gets approached by a young subordinate of theirs to help him rise back from the dark shadows. The directors, Guillaume Dousse and Felicien Colmet-Daage, claim that the teaser sets the right mood that we are up for one hell of an action.

Graphics and Animation

The Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is coming with an age-old yet versatile 2D style. Yes! The animation is designed by the popular Sun Creature Studio and Fost Studio. They employ the classic hand-drawn technique using ToonBoom Harmony to create the unique style. If you watch the poster, teaser, you will understand it’s similar to the early 2000s-2010s cartoons and games, so they are bringing the nostalgia of espionage theme back.

Music and Sound Effects

Deathwatch’s intense sound effects & background music are composed by Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans, famous for their work in top-charted shows like The Outsider. They are working deep to create a mood and aesthetic that matches Sam’s atmosphere, action sequences. You can expect excellence as lines are voiced by a good actor, too.

When is the Release?

The teaser hasn’t given an exact date but is hinting at the show’s release in the late Fall season of this year, maybe with Eyes of Wakanda on Netflix. If you are curious, play the video games and learn about Sam Fisher, then maybe it will become your best watch.
