The word Splitsville sounds similar to Splitsvilla. Actually, both are different. The former is the upcoming movie, whereas the latter is an Indian reality show that airs on MTV. Both name holds one common bond—the relationship between a couple. The American director Michael Angelo Covino, who previously delivered “The Climb” as a writer and star of the movie, is now ready to direct and star in another movie, Splitsville. Centred on the theme of open marriage, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Kyle Marvin, Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, David Castañeda, O-T Fagbenle, and Tyrone Benskin. Moreover, Kyle Marvin made an equal contribution to the script, working alongside Michael Angelo Covino.

Troubled Relationship

Unfolding the turbulence in the lives of two couples is the main plot of this movie. Ashley, played by Adria Arjona, and Carey, played by Kyle Marvin, are married couples who are on the brink of divorce. Carey, a kind-hearted person, is devastated when his wife seeks a divorce. Frustrated, Carey runs away from Ashley and meets his friends Julie and Paul, played by Dakota Johnson and Michael Angelo Covino.

Open Marriage

Julie and Paul are in an open relationship. The arrival of Carey in their lives changes the whole scenario. Carey builds a relationship with Julie, thus inviting all the drama, conflicts, and tension among the trio.

Cannes Release

Originally, Splitsville was screened at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2025.

Different Screenings

The film is scheduled to release internationally on different dates. However, the film’s limited release is on August 22, 2025.

Dakota’s Character Portrayal

One may assume that the Fifty Shades actor Dakota Johnson always portrays explicit sexual content. However, throughout her career, she has portrayed a diverse range of characters—for example, in How to Be Single, Black Mass, and A Bigger Splash, all showcase her ability to shift between genres and character types. Her recent movie Materialists also explored similar underlying themes of emotional fallout, love, and complex relationship dynamics. Starring Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans in the lead roles, the Materialists film underperformed due to its resonating factors with viewers; it made headlines for its depiction of modernised culture and romance.

This Splitsville film explores the theme of strained relationships, open marriage, love, betrayal, and unpredictability of human nature. This film features talented actors, picturesque locations and has the ability to entertain the audience upon its release.
