Secrets are like walls with petty holes; The bigger the Sin, the greater the Karma. In this pattern of old-school Hollywood suspense mystery, shows like Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, and I Know What You Did Last Summer ruled the industry. Lucky for us, the genre is being revamped to reflect today’s Gen Z relationships and trauma. Well, the blockbuster film, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, is prepping for a legacy sequel. Let’s see all the details here.

The Plot

Following the pre-conceived themes, a group of five teenagers during their summer trip accidentally run over a stranger’s car. Instead of helping the victim, they cover it up and ignore the nightmare like it never happened. A year later, two of the lovers are getting married on a dreamy island, bachelorette, everything is fine, until a greeting card calls, “I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER”. Now they are targets of the dangerous hook-wielding killer/fisherman, who knows their secret. Soon, one of them gets killed, and they reach the real survivors of this massacre to help.

Who is this new killer? What is his/her relationship with the victim? Can all of them live a normal life again? All these questions will be answered in theatres.

Connected or Remake

Adapted from the book, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, this upcoming 2025 film is a legacy sequel, continuing the story and characters. In other words, 2024 Mean Girls is a remake of the original movie, while Scream all the films are franchise. In the same situation, the makers didn’t change the title, so you confuse it as a remake, but it’s not.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is a reminiscing old-kept vintage legacy of slasher villains, keeping peer betrayals and mystery themes intact. In addition to that, we have our favourite teens, Jennifer Love and Freedie Prinze, back into their roles as Julie and Ray, as adults and sole survivors still haunted by the trauma, raising high expectations.

Camerawork, Music, and Visuals

Both trailers released in April and June are very scary & detailed, as the Hook-wielding killer is back to avenge the fatal accident of an innocent. Likewise, the camera zooms in on the thin ice between friends, which one must’ve leaked. It keeps the guessing game as we once again unwieldy a night full of broken feelings, love, and murder. The film’s music score is given by Chanda Dancy, bringing a fresh tension to the audience.
