The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies drew inspiration from J. R. R. Tolkien’s books, specifically highlighting the life of Middle-earth’s people. Both movies had a trilogy series:
The Lord of the Rings
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
- The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The Hobbit
- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
- The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Though the movie’s adaptation of stories differs in timelines and characters, the core plot remains true to the spirit of Tolkien’s world, focusing on the struggle between good and evil, the power of friendship, and the importance of courage in the face of darkness.
What is the difference between the Amazon series and the movie?
The creators, J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay, for Amazon crafted a story focusing on the Second Age, a time in Middle-earth’s history that Tolkien didn’t describe in much detail, centred around how the Rings of Power were made and how Sauron became powerful. Meanwhile, The lord of the Rings movies were set around the Third Age, depicting a war between Middle-earth and Sauron, and Frodo embarking on a mission to destroy the Ring.
Is The Series a Continuation of Movies?
There is a huge time gap between the two periods. The movie adheres to the book, while the series tries to sustain Tolkien’s style and imaginative world. This “The Rings of Power” is not a direct continuation of the film trilogy.
Earlier Seasons
The first season premiered on September 1, 2022, and shed light on Sauron disguising himself as a man to create the Rings of Power with the help of elves. The second premiered on August 29, 2024, and uncovers manipulative tricks used by Sauron to gain control over Middle-Earth, thereby establishing himself as the strongest and fiercest leader.
Season 3
The entire series has an ensemble cast, notably Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Lenny Henry as Sadoc Burrows, Sara Zwangobani as Marigold Brandyfoot, Dylan Smith as Largo Brandyfoot, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, and Charlie Vickers as Sauron. However, when the series was released, it received positive reviews for its stunning visuals, strong direction, creative writing, addition of new characters and rich storytelling. Due to its success, the third season has already begun its shooting in May, and is ready to hit the platform shortly.
