Searching for the best Sci-fi movies to stream today? Whether it’s a crime story or a mind-bending psychological thriller, sitting confused in front of your screen can be a more enjoyable experience than it sounds. Here are some best Sci-fi Movies.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

One of the most remarkable aspects of Across the Spider-Verse is its stunning visuals. The film seamlessly incorporates various forms of animation, creating a visually breathtaking spectacle. Every frame is a work of art, and the animation is so daring and innovative that even the simplest dialogue scenes are elevated to new heights.

The storyline

The storyline of Across the Spider-Verse is equally captivating. It deftly navigates the multiverse concept, introducing audiences to different versions of Spider-People from various dimensions. While this might sound complex, the film’s meticulous storytelling ensures that every character’s journey is coherent and emotionally resonant. Each Spider-Person brings their unique traits and quirks, resulting in an ensemble cast that feels distinct and well-developed.

The Characters

The Spider People were the best characters. The best part was Spider-Man India. As an Indian, he was so relatable. We liked how there were two villains in the movie. The Spot was such a funny villain and was amazing. Spider-Man 2099 was an okay villain, and he was really serious about almost everything. My favorite part of the whole movie is when the Spider People did the pointing meme. Overall ,the characters were downright amazing.

IMDb Rating – 8.5/10 (Rated by 452k+ Viewers )

The Wandering Earth (2019)

The Wandering Earth is a visually stunning sci-fi epic that dares to imagine humanity moving Earth to a new star system to escape a dying Sun. Its bold premise and ambitious storytelling make it a spectacle worth watching, but the film stumbles when scrutinized for logic and scientific accuracy.

The Storyline

In the future, the Sun expands. To prevent the Earth from being engulfed by flames, humanity gets together and moves the planet towards Jupiter, planning to use the latter as a sling to catapult Earth outside the solar system, toward a more livable place. Moving towards Jupiter freezes the surface of the Earth, and humanity goes to live in underground cities. Astronaut Liu Pei Qiang left the Earth 17 years ago on a space mission related to the project to save the Earth, leaving behind his four-year-old son, Liu Qi, who is 21 at present. Now that his father is meant to return, Liu Qi steals a special vehicle and, together with his adoptive sister, goes to the Earth’s surface to welcome his father through space.

The Characters

Father & Son characters and their relationship progression resemble that of Bruce Willis’/ Daughters in Armageddon (1998). The supporting characters all had their defining moments and were not left out at all throughout the film, nor at its climax, which was very thoughtful of the editing staff.

IMDb Rating: 5.9/10

Oxygen (2021)

French Netflix sci-fi thriller OXYGENE takes viewers by storm with its unsettling approach and relentless thrill. Alexandra Aja molded a small concept of being stuck in a cryogenic chamber into 2 hours of nerve-racking suspense. The spellbinding heroine of Inglorious Basterds, MĂ©lanie Laurent with a taut, engaging sci-fi survival thriller that is also alarmingly topical and relevant to today’s day and time

The Unique Storyline

Elizabeth Hensen (Melanie Laurent) wakes up in a cryogenic chamber, only to know that she is stuck here and has no way out. She has one advanced AI at her disposal, and she needs to solve the mystery of getting out of the chamber along with her own identity, which she does not remember. She fights against all odds to survive. Well, that’s the synopsis.

The entire movie features a single character’s struggle to survive, and everything happens inside the pod with regular flashbacks that gradually reveal the backstory. It gives you the vibe of the film ‘Gravity.’

Severance Review; Here’s Everything You Should Know

The Best Part

It contributes much to the sense of mystery of the outside world. This was incrementally punctuated by mild jolts of continual revelations of the world beyond. The storyline and acting were succinct, giving an authentic response to a situation of trauma, distress, panic, and hope through the adversity of being in a claustrophobic near-death experience.

The Characters And Performance

Melanie Laurent’s lead (practically solo) performance is outstanding, as is the English voice actress Cherami Leigh, who dubbed Laurent very effectively.

IMDb Rating – 6.5/10

The Platform (2019)

The Platform is the Spanish Sci-fi Thriller directed by Galder Gaztelu. It delivers a very strong social message in a nonlinear format, but the way it was conveyed will hit you hard right on your head, and it will take some time to get over the shock, so this film is not recommended for the faint-hearted. Director Galder deserves a huge round of applause for his pathbreaking effort and out-of-the-box thinking to come up with a gripping thriller with a solid social message.

The Storyline

The movie is about a prison that was built in a tower structure, and the prisoners are fed with the help of a platform that travels from top to bottom through a big hole in the middle. The platform stops in each cell for a few minutes, and within that short time, the inmates should consume their share of food and leave the remaining for the prisoners who are staying in the lower cell.

However, people in the top cell consume more and leave only a little food for the prisoners who are staying in the lower cell. Due to starvation and lack of food in the lower cell, it leads to complete chaos and cannibalism. It is like a mirror that shows the current condition of our world.

The Best Part

It portrays how people are greedy and gruesome in leading their lives and fail to help the people who are in need of food for their existence. The fact that one day the world is going to end this way if we don’t ration the food equally!

On the downside, this film contains a certain degree of gruesome, adult content and disturbing scenes. Hence, it is not suitable for weak-hearted people.

The Characters

The actors in the movie have performed well. The screenplay and direction are the real stars of this movie and undoubtedly, especially the protagonist Ivan Massague, who played as Goreng.

The Midnight Sky (2020)

This is one of those films that you watch and you can’t get out of your head after. You keep wondering, “What happened next?” Throughout the whole film, there’s just the right amount of intensity.

The storyline

The Midnight Sky is based around an apocalyptic Earth, from the viewpoint of George Clooney’s lone scientist based in a research base in the Arctic Circle, with a mysterious child, abandoned by his hurriedly evacuated colleagues for company on one hand & a returning spaceship having been sent out to discover a potential new world, a recently discovered Jovian Moon, with a crew concerned at not being able to contact the Earth on the other.

The Best Part

The crew of the exploration ship returning to Earth was cool and professional in dealing with their situations, as you would expect from highly trained and educated Astronauts on a multi-year mission. A good job was done in succinctly portraying the crew, especially the Commander’s thoughts when dictating his log.

This is a movie classic that you can rewatch multiple times, and you’ll still look forward to every scene unfolding. Seeing it the 2nd time around gives me a very different perspective and even more chilling effects.

The Characters

Augustine (Georgey) performs as the lonely, grieving scientist in the Arctic, emphasizing his ability to convey a sense of loss and determination.

Sully (Felicity Jones) and the Space Crew, many feel their characters remain underdeveloped and lack an emotional connection. Iris (Caoilinn, the young girl, is generally well-received, noting the chemistry she develops with Clooney’s Character.
