Pop star and teen icon of the 1960s and 70s, Bobby Sherman, has passed away at the age of 81. After battling stage four kidney cancer, a struggle that was publicly disclosed earlier this year, he died at home in Encino, California. His wife, Brigitte Poublon confirmed his death on Tuesday.

Sherman enjoyed a solid career filled with accolades and awards

 Including several albums that were certified gold including There Comes (Bobby), whose one-year stay in the Billboard top 200 chart featured him for almost one year sitting alongside legends like Elvis Presley with other albums. Alongside his signature bubblegum hits like La la la if I had you with bangers julie do ya love me, and Easy Come Easy Go, truly shattered everyone’s expectations from pop culture back then.

As an actor, Sherman starred as Jeremy Bolt in Here Come The Brides (1968-1970) along with many other shows like Shindig! and Emergency!. Later in life, he would go on to work as a public servant, working for the LAPD and San Diego County Sheriff’s Department as a paramedic CPR instructor, showcasing his passion towards helping people even after leaving showbiz.

Brigitte Poublon conveyed her sorrow

While  simultaneously commending Sherman for his bravery during the couple’s 29-year marriage, describing how he “left this world holding my hand, just as he upheld our life with love, courage, and unwavering grace.” Family friend and actor John Stamos shared her message. He called Sherman “brave, gentle, and full of light” .

Sherman is survived by his wife, along with two sons named Tyler and Christopher, as well as six grandchildren. As one of the greatest teen idols from his era, Sherman is fondly remembered for his music, television appearances, and later his humanitarian work.
