Bollywood’s August 2025 slate is a lively mix of romance, action, comedy, and patriotic dramas. From star-studded, eventful, big-budget blockbusters to feel-good family movies and some fresh pairings, this August will be a special one for all types of moviegoers. Whether you’re looking for heart-wrenching love stories, fantastically outrageous spy frolics, or just clean, wholesome entertainment with a fantastic feel-good factor, these seven films are the films you should look for. Read below for each of the films planned to debut in August, why each of them is different, and why you should dedicate some time to see them; an overall overview will be at the end as well.

1. Dhakad 2—Releasing on August 1st, 2025

This spiritual successor to Dhadak (2018) examines love across caste and class with depth and sensitivity. Starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, the film evolves from shiny, superficial mainstream storytelling to more grounded emotional storytelling. Now, finally getting its premiere after lingering on the sidelines since 2020 on August 1st, 2025, Dhadak 2 seems set to have moving music, heartfelt performances, and a socially relevant story. It’s worth watching for its lyrical storytelling and modern perspectives on romance under pressure.

2. Son of Sardaar 2- Releasing on 1st August, 2025

Another return to the much-loved Son of Sardaar universe, complete with slapstick comedy and over-the-top action. Releasing alongside Dhadak 2, this sequel is both nostalgic and full of new cast excitement. If you are in the market for silly comedy, Punjabi-style action sequences, and a cast of family chaos all packed into one film, this fits the bill well.

3. Housefull 5 (Prime Video on August 1st, 2025)

Housefull 5 releases on Amazon Prime Video on August 1, 2025, and it comes with two different versions (5A and 5B)—each with a different end. Set on a luxury cruise, this chaotic comedy‑murder‑mystery featuring a huge ensemble cast serves up over-the-top slapstick, star power, and replayability with separate endings, making it an ideal choice for those who enjoy the excess of Bollywood.

4. Heer Express—Releasing on August 8th, 2025

Heer Express is a film directed by Umesh Shukla, which features Gulshan Grover in an unusual cheery role—he plays a dhaba owner and is playing against his iconic “Bad Man” image to represent a warm, feel-good character. The film is releasing on August 8, and aims to be an uplifting and clean entertainer. It is charming in its simplicity and empathy and will be great viewing for fans of character-driven narratives and emotional humour.

5. War 2—Releasing on 14th August, 2025

The biggest tentpole of the month is undoubtedly War 2, which brings back Hrithik Roshan and South superstar N. T. Rama Jr. in a spy-versus-spy global quest directed by Ayan Mukerji. War 2 boasts a visual spectacle complete with high stakes, has the backing of Yash Raj Films, and will be released worldwide on the OTT Premiere Amazon Prime Video as well on 15th November 2025. Spy‑film aficionados and action junkies should not miss this completely visceral blockbuster.

6. Coolie (Theatre – August 14; OTT – Prime Video)

This pan‑India blockbuster has brought Rajinikanth together with Lokesh Kanagaraj and will release alongside War 2 on August 14, in a highly anticipated box office clash. Think dark revenge drama with a mass-market appeal and whimsical narrative style. After its theatrical run, Coolie will be available on Prime Video in the middle of August. There are definitely reasons to catch this one for its star power and mass-market scale.

7. The India Story (Theatres – August 15; OTT – ZEE5)

The India Story is a patriotic historical drama that will be released on Independence Day, August 15, and should inspire the national spirit. A cinematic narrative based in fact and developed as an evocative chronicle of the journey of India itself. ZEE5 will stream it immediately following its theatrical release. The film is a must-watch for lovers of history and those with a sense of patriotism.
