Are you bored with routine action and romcoms? Here is a fun American heist comedy film that has a star ensemble cast but is quite underrated on Netflix. I am talking about the Money Heist’s darling Tokyo, aka Ursula Corberó, & laughter king Kevin Hart’s “Lift”. Yes! Let’s go into more details and discuss whether worth a watch or a skip!

The High Profile Heist

Cyrus Whitaker, aka Kevin Hart, is the charismatic leader of an infamous heist group. They have previously done a dangerous dual theft of stealing a Van Gogh hand painting from the London museum while kidnapping a NFT artist in Venice. Their global crimes have caught the Interpol’s attention, more specifically, Cyru’s ex-GF, Abby Gladwell. She arrests his crew member, Denton. But superior, Huxley, has other plans to change the course of the tide. He offers them a deal to steal from the Billionaire Lars Jorgenson. Thus, intercept his gold shipment, replace it with decoys, while causing no terrorism. What is their plan? Will they succeed? What are Huxley’s real intentions? Fill the rest.

Vibe: Thieves vs Hijack

It’s big fun as the movie progresses because the cast has different responsibilities that together bring the story’s charm. Ursula as Pilot, Yoon Ji as Hacker, Luke as Engineer, etc, all of them have something interesting to bring to the table. They planned to steal from a large commercial flight, in other words, stealing in plain sight. The story becomes predictable after a point, but the restrained performances and their action sequences are a big plus that keep us hooked. It’s appreciated efforts to pull off a high-length comedy and comedic sides of actors in a heist film. Likewise, the film has stunning visuals and a backdrop surrounding the central heart of Europe.

Crafting Characters

Kevin Hart proved he can pull off best comedy and a serious side as well. His chemistry with Gugu Mbahta-Raw as an Interpol agent is realistic. The crew list has actually good actors like Ursula Corbero of Money Heist, quite underused in this film. Director Grey has focused too much on creating comedic suspense and less on character arcs, which is disappointing. Other crew members don’t have any memorable plot to connect with emotionally or a purpose. The story flows ike still water and we go in tune.

Soundtrack and VFX

The film’s music is composed by popular songwriter and music director Dominic Lewis and Guillaume Roussel. They’ve given chilling soundtracks that work well in impacting the audience. Tracks like “Venice Boat Chase”, “Final Confrontation”, & “Jet Battle” work their magic in upgrading the film’s vibe and entertainment.

Final Verdict

I wouldn’t say it’s the best of Kevin Hart’s or Ursula’s works, but “Lift” offers an okayish plot with underdeveloped character lines. It’s beautiful sceneries work in harmony with the action-packed scenes. Further, the film’s climax and ending are good. Thus, a decent one-time watch with a stomach full of jokes and relief.
