Is it truly a “Rebirth” if it just keeps reliving the past? That’s the big question haunting Jurassic World: Rebirth, which stomped into theaters on July 2, sandwiched between the Formula 1 biopic and the marketing hurricane that is Superman: Legacy.

On paper, it promises a fresh chapter in a dino-saga we’ve followed for decades. But in execution? It’s like watching your favorite creature… just circle the same track again. So, what worked and why are fans still walking away unimpressed? Let’s Find out:-

Before the Spoiler Bite: What Did Work?

  • The dino action is decent: The Mosasaurus sequence in particular got people cheering. It’s grand, fun, and the kind of creature-feature chaos audiences pay for.
  • Jonathan Bailey’s performance surprised many: Viewers expected another comic relief scientist but were gifted a surprisingly layered, quirky character who’s genuinely excited to interact with dinosaurs.
  • Less Marvel-ized than feared: Yes, there’s humor. But the film doesn’t overload on quips that break the tension, thankfully.
  • The returning adult cast has range: They’re not Shakespearean, but at least they’re more expressive than the lifeless caricatures from previous entries. If you’re purely in for the dinosaurs, explosions, and some mildly charming moments, this might hold your attention.

But Here’s Why It’s Not Worth Your Time

  • Recycled Plot Syndrome:  The movie regurgitates the same beats we’ve seen since 1993. Even Reddit is calling it “basically a better version of Jurassic Park III,” which, while not the worst praise, also isn’t exactly a compliment.
  • No Real Stakes: Every character walks out intact. There’s no bite, no fear, no risk. One fan quipped, “This movie doesn’t have the balls to kill anyone important.” That lack of danger makes all the action feel hollow.
  • A Flat Family Subplot: The human side story, a family caught in the chaos is so unimportant, fans have asked why they were even included. “They added NOTHING and actively pissed me off,” said one Redditor.
  • Tonal Whiplash and Pacing Drag: For a movie that should be thrilling, it drags.

Some action scenes go on too long, while others feel cut short. The quiet bits, instead of adding suspense or character depth, feel like padding.

Fan Reaction: Reddit Had Thoughts

Reddit’s always a thermometer for fan temperature. And right now? It’s lukewarm, with a few boiling over:

  • “It’s better than the last two, but still feels like a one-off side quest, not a rebirth.”
  •  “Calling it ‘Rebirth’ was bold. Should’ve called it ‘Jurassic Island’ and moved on.”
  •  “That family subplot? Jurassic Nope.”
  • “Mosasaur was the MVP. Everything else felt neutered.”

Some fans did appreciate the nods to past films, but many felt the movie lacked soul. As one comment put it, “It’s dino wallpaper ~ loud, glossy, but you don’t take it home with you.”

What Function Does This Film Serve?

To be blunt… It feels more like brand maintenance than narrative necessity.

It’s not laying the foundation for a bold new trilogy, nor offering an emotionally satisfying send-off. Instead, it’s… just there.  A studio-safe move, hoping dinosaurs alone will carry ticket sales while offering no real reason to revisit or remember it.

Final Take

Jurassic World: Rebirth wants to be a franchise resurrection, but it’s more like a museum exhibit ~ polished, familiar, and a little too quiet. It lacks the terror of Jurassic Park, the wonder of Spielberg, or the stakes of good modern sci-fi.

If this film were a dinosaur, it wouldn’t be a raptor or a T-Rex. It’d be a fossil : well-preserved, but already extinct.
