Unlike many thriller films, the housemaid movie showcasing secrets hidden by many characters. The employer family and Millie herself have pasts they don’t want to unveil. This creates a constant two and fro of suspicion. Another reason is the power dynamics, which is seen through the character of Millie, a young maid living in the home of a wealthy, powerful family naturally sets up tension. The movie’s set up of a giant mansion also sets the tone which inclines more towards Gothic-style setting, making the house feel both inviting and suffocating.
