This is a Turkish TV series showing me as a Russian, how the Turks lived historically. It’s a historical epic of breathtaking proportions. It celebrates Turkish historical culture and much more. Netflix offers a wide variety of TV shows and movies. We all decided to watch this show just to get away from the usual American stuff. As this generation is not into reading books, or especially historical books, this season is an excellent contribution for us to understand their history thrillingly.

In the 13th century, the scattered tribes of Anatolia found themselves united and safe from the scourge of the Mongol and Templar tyrants under the magnificent leadership of Ertugrul.

The Best Part

Ertugrul is a world-renowned phenomenon because of how easily it attracted the audience towards the play.  Each character is unique in their own right. The scenes with the strong horses in slow motion or the aerial and long-angle shots of the settings are marvellous.  It shows how labour has been put into being successful for the drama.

2. Magnificent Century [2011] (Drama)

Magnificent Century

The Storyline

Generally, we assume royal life to be carefree and full of privileges. This series exposes the dark side of royalty, where no one could sleep in peace. Blood, revenge, murders, cover-ups, rumours, backstabbing, etc., were the norm. Everyone has to make their move to counter those of others. People become cruel and violent in the process. No one emerges as an angel

The Best Part

The Magnificent Century and this one, Kosem Magnificent Century. Brilliant script to cinematography, costume, acting & and the entire production. The soundtrack is great. The detail and precision that goes into every single episode are nothing short of amazing. It is a desperately captivating tale that would do so well on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime here in the states.

The Characters

Acting is excellent, with special mention for the actors who played Suleiman, Hurrem (original and her replacement), Mahidevran and Bayezid.

IMDb Rating – 7/10

3. Ezel [2009] (Drama)

Ezel [2009]

The Storyline

The psychology is extraordinary! Great drama & action, the story of love and hatred, revenge and compassion, cruelty and kindness, crudeness. The movie moguls in Turkey know how to spin stories that leave you on the edge of your seat, anxious for the next episode. The wardrobe, the ambience, how they walk and speak like a lord. When Esel, the hero, becomes penniless and Eysen, with Kenan, loses the good connection, the story becomes like a Hollywood story.

The Best Part

When the surgeon doctor appreciates Ezel saying Congrats, you have achieved the impossible, the surgeon doctor was the one who gave him the book after surgery, and he wrote the quote on the first page: ” To do the impossible”. We only understood in the end why Cengiz was such a spoiled brat, heartless lad, jealous and hateful friend, suffering and never-recovering narcissist.

The Characters

The relationship between Ali and Omer (Ezel). The last scene was when Ali couldn’t let go of Ezel. Pity Eynshan had to die at the hands of a narcissist, Cengiz. They performed outstanding roles and became popular of all time.

IMDb Rating – 8.6/10

What is Fatmagül's Fault?

The Storyline

What is Fatmagül’s Fault? the story about a fierce girl who didn’t bow down to circumstances and in the end won her life. This shows the importance of honour and justice to women’s abuse. Fatmagul is priceless as a rape survivor to live with a person who she believes is also one of her rapist (although this is not true) u can see how she cannot talk or smile at kerim even when he does her so much good, because her first impression of him is one of the aggressor, even when she wants to believe him she cant as her wounds are so deep.

The Best Part

The human and realistic aspect of this story makes it more familiar, we connect instantly. Fatmagul, the character that we’ve seen on television, now defines courage and determination. Her story is just not her story, but it’s about all the deprived women out there, and sure, it’s an inspiration for them as well to fight back.

The Characters

Fatmagul was so believable, a woman who went through some intense trauma, she was hurt, with very strong facial expressions and then Kerim is so patient of a patient man, the only man in this series.

 IMDb Rating – 6/10
